Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

On Friday, the House of Commons voted on Kim Leadbeater’s Assisted Dying (Terminally Ill Adults) Bill. Over recent weeks and months there has been a swelling of public debate, with compassionate consideration on all sides of this intense and emotional issue.

I believe this conversation should not be rushed. It deserves more time so we can explore the complexity of the issues, not least of which discussion about how we improve palliative care. As such I voted for the Bill to continue to be discussed.

The second reading is a vote on principle. The next stage will allow further discussion on Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults and enable exploration of the practicalities of the Bill.

I would like to thank the many constituents I have spoken to who have shared their personal opinions, experiences, and stories. Your hundreds of emails, letters, postcards, and the meetings I have had have been incredibly valuable.

Thank you.
