What the budget means for Nuneaton
At the end of October, Britain’s first female Chancellor delivered our Government’s initial budget. The 164 page document contains a lot of facts and figures, so my team and I have broken it down to find the policies that will mean the most to constituents of Nuneaton.
1) £1 BILLION for SEND
Alongside reforming the system, to make sure it’s working for SEND children, parents and schools, a financial uplift of £1 billion will see better outcomes and support in our local provision.
2) Increases to National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage
The National Living Wage is going up to £12.21/hour, and the Minimum Wage is being increased for 18-21 year olds, putting more in the pockets of working people.
3) FREEZING Fuel Duty
Drivers won’t see a rise at the pumps next year, but as your MP, I’m also meeting with all major local transport stakeholders to make sure that public transport in Nuneaton serves those who don’t travel by car.
4) £1 billion for the Household Support Fund
This funding supports those struggling with the cost of living. Warwickshire has already been allocated £3,472,997 through the scheme, to help residents locally.
5) 40% relief on business rates
Our town centre is the heart of Nuneaton, and I want to see it thrive. A 40% relief on local businesses in hospitality and leisure sectors will encourage growth in key sectors.
6) Ending injustice with the Mineworkers Pension Scheme
Nuneaton has 695 former mineworkers who are signed up to the Mineworkers Pension Scheme, and the budget has released £1 billion back into the fund. This means that miners and their families will see an immediate boost to their pensions.
7) BIGGEST Cash Boost to our NHS since 2010
We’re kickstarting our pledge to fix the NHS with record funding, that will help our very own George Eliot Hospital.
8) Keeping our promises
During my election campaign, I promised residents of Nuneaton that working people would see no rises to Income Tax or National Insurance on their payslips. I’m happy to say I’m keeping that promise.
